Day 1 of our Second Trip to Japan

Crazy sign in Narita Airport

Welp, I started the day at 6:00 AM, waiting for B to pick me up. I Went back to his place and caught the ride to the airport. Not nearly as cold as the last time we went, we froze our balls off last year. Not good.

The airport was standard fare: get there three hours early, grab a nice overpriced breakfast, and settle in for a long ass flight. We got lucky and we were on a flight that wasn't full so we could shift about and get more comfortable. We sat near a nice woman who was on her way to Guam for her Navy reserves training. Nice enough girl. She was glad to have someone to talk to and so were we.

The plane!

I went back and forth with reading, writing articles to be posted, and watching CSI on the little TV. All went as well as could be expected for a 13 hour flight. The landing was a little rough. I've dealt with that before so it was a matter of just hoping they didn't miss the runway. Unfortunately they did miss the runway and took right back off again.

I didn't mind but B was a bit upset about it. Well, not B so much as parts of B. His stomach was thoroughly unimpressed with the meal we had last and that combined with being jostled around like a sock in a dryer did not do him well at all. I have finally seen someone use an airsick bag. B was not amused.

Well, after customs and finding our baggage, I decided I needed a smoke. It had been nearly 16 hours and I was fiending like a motherfucker. Now, Narita is an interesting place to say the least. You have to go outside to smoke, but once there you have to go into these small suicide booth looking things to have one. So it was go outside then go inside to smoke. Dumb. But it was interesting to meet other travelers in the same boat.

We caught our shuttle to the hotel and it is nice. The downside is that Internet access costs 15 bucks a day. Damn that. So this and future Tokyo postings will be done in the Business Center or on pirated wifi access.

Welp, after hanging at the hotel and getting our bearings we decided it was time to eat. This was around 6:00 PM local time, so that means it was 5:00 AM back home. We stopped in what we thought was a tavern but found out it was, in fact, a Jack Daniels bar. So, a few beers and some good food later, we decided that that was enough fun for the first day and to go crash the hell out. So at 8:00 PM local we turned in. Yes thats 7:00 AM for those at home.

Stay tuned for our continuing adventures.... like waking up today at 2:00 AM and being unable to sleep so I went to 7-11. So here we are at 3:30 AM and instead of sleeping I'm writing for www.recklessphilosophers.com and www.recklesstravelers.com. I must love you guys to be doing this shit

And B keeps asking, "Are we there yet?" I still don't think it's sunk in.
